Research

Here is the research for my documentary

1. Making a murderer 2018 (S1 E01)

Making a murderer is a real case of a crime documentary that is showing the details of Steven Avery's story. its about a man that were framed for a murder purposed and showing a story on how hes fighting against the person that were involved that made him went into the jail for 18 years.

the opening was showing how did Steven get out of the jail in 2004, which is showing the genre convection of an expository(when there is a narrator on the documentary that explains specific information and tells what happened inside the documentary) and participatory documentary ( a documentary that involved community to design and carry out their own story collection and dissemination). by mostly showing Steven A's clips and by telling his story/journey. This documentary would be targeted towards young adults and older people as the storyline that were pictured and shown is a serious case (only adult/matured person would understand) which young kids or teens would not understand nor interested. the representation between the polices & lawyers were represented as bad people through out the dark lightning, ominous phone calls and just how they describe them the audience can tell that they're bad people.

American Vandal

American Vandal is an American documentary television series produced by Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda. Their goal is to make a show that is filming a true crime documentaries. The show's first episode revolves around famed student character Dylan Maxwell. He was about of being expelled after a school staff member's which includes 27 cars had been vandalised by someone. Presented through the eye of student Peter Maldonado, the documentary focuses on exploring the reality behind the events, leading Maldonado to his personal investigation.

Media Language

a variety of camera shot and editing technique are used along the episodes such as the clips from the social media, CCTV, and clips and footage that are made by peter. We are being introduced by the main character which is Dylan Maxwell with is using a medium shot technique. mostly in this episodes medium shots are the most commonly found to show what is really happening in that particular situation such as the interviews among the suspects, and to show the background story of the person being interviewed. this documentary film was filmed within only 1 camera which is peter's. This made like a POV effect or specifically made the audience feel that they are involved  in this case and also interacting with the characters inside. They also included some of sound media language such as the non digetic and the digetic sound. such as the suspense-like soundtrack to make a suspenseful effect towards the audiences.

Audience

This Documentary series mainly focusing on the life and drama of teenagers especially high school. the whole thing about this documentary is focusing about a crime and also incident that happened in high school which is mainly showing teen actors such as the students thats involved while combining a weird-disturbing adult humor which is the humor that mostly young kids/teens would like. The characters inside were quite diverse by showing different type of race, skin color, and ethics and mainly represent on what's a highschool in america looks like, which made a lot of people could relate themself  towards the film. Well, these type of school problems usually represented schools in america because the type of the bullying cases, vandalism and many more other american schools problem.

Genre Convection

American vandal follows the convection of a two documentary genre which is mockumentary and a true based crime documentary by not making it too intense but it seems to be funny because the humor that are used. They also had an interesting storyline of a crime about a guy (Dylan) being suspected as the vandalizer of the 27's car on the parking lot. It is so interesting because it made the audience thinks and questioning who's behind this whole problem. was it really dylan or someone else. they also included a narrator inside the flm which is the one of key feature of a true crime documentary, and also because most of the humor used were absurd and can make people laugh, it suits for the convection of an mocumentary genre.

Representation

The American vandal which is mainly focus on a person from a friend group which is dylan maxwell, a white-buffed teen, Grade 12 (senior) and his friend group are represented as a school's troublemaker by talking disrespectfully with teachers, making trouble inside the class, drawing absurd things and skipping class. This movie are mainly played by a character whith a race from African-American, Asian and of course white teens.

Conclusion

American vandal did their job great, I could say its a succesful documentary movies, just from the start it hooks me up and made me curious about whats happening next. I like the humor, the storyline and everything about it. its just good because what we all know about a school in america looks like/represented by the media.
