How Media Target Audience

 Media can engage audiences in two ways: demographics and psychographics. 

Demographics: Age, gender, social class, ethnicity, income, location, political leanings and star attraction.

 Psychology: Personality, behavior (passive or active), values, interests, and spending habits. 

Genres, sub-genres, and genre conventions 

Genres are also another way for media to target audiences. This is a method of categorising media products and grouping them into groups with common characteristics. 

Genre is another thing that takes the categorisation of media a step further, basically a genre, actually a sub-genre. 

Finally, genre conventions are the various elements within a genre, such as demographics and psychographics.
